    In a significant military victory, Ugandan troops serving with the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) have recaptured the strategic villages of Sabiid and Anole from Al-Shabaab militants. The successful operation, code-named “Operation Silent Storm,” was conducted over three days in the Lower Shabelle region.
    Key Highlights:
    – Recapture of Strategic Villages: Sabiid and Anole villages were liberated from Al-Shabaab control, marking a crucial win for AUSSOM and SNAF forces.
    – Neutralization of Al-Shabaab Fighters: Several Al-Shabaab fighters were neutralized during the operation, and a substantial amount of ammunition was seized from fleeing militants.
    – Clearing of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs): AUSSOM and SNAF forces cleared IEDs planted in communities and supply routes, ensuring the safety of locals.
    – *Continued Joint Operations: Sector One Commander Brigadier General Joseph Ssemwanga emphasized that joint operations will continue in Lower Shabelle until Al-Shabaab threats are effectively addressed.
    AUSSOM’s Commitment:
    AUSSOM Force Commander Lieutenant General Sam Kavuma commended the bravery of Ugandan troops and the Somali National Army, highlighting AUSSOM’s commitment to implementing the Somali Transition Plan. This plan aims to transfer security responsibilities to the Somali Security Forces, ultimately stabilizing the region.
    Current Situation:
    AUSSOM and SNAF forces are currently securing the recaptured villages and clearing remaining pockets of Al-Shabaab terrorists in Lower Shabelle’s Afgooye district. The operation’s objective is to degrade and eliminate terrorists from the region.
